Frequently Asked
Questions

Here are some of the common questions people have about working with me. Can't find your answer here? Get in touch below.

Does working with you always involve trancework?

Not always. While trancework can be a powerful tool—especially when you're navigating patterns or blocks that aren’t easily accessed through conscious thought—it’s just one of several modalities I may draw on.

Depending on your needs, our work might focus more on high-level coaching to help you gain clarity, take aligned action, and move through present-day challenges. At other times, energy healing may be the most supportive path—especially when you’re holding stuck emotional or energetic residue, or simply in need of deep nervous system restoration.

Every session is thoughtfully curated to meet you exactly where you are. This is a highly personalised, multidimensional experience designed to support your growth on every level: mind, body, and spirit.

How many sessions will I need?

Each journey is unique. For many, a single session can spark noticeable transformation. For others, especially when working through layered or long-held patterns, a curated series of sessions allows for deeper integration and lasting change. The Illumine Method™ is designed to be highly effective and efficient—unlike traditional talk therapy, which can span years, this work often creates movement much more quickly.

Many clients choose to continue working together as part of their self-care ritual, weaving this work into the rhythm of their lives. Whether it's to stay energetically aligned, emotionally clear, or simply to reconnect with yourself on a deeper level, these sessions become a nourishing space of recalibration—an anchor of support within your life.

Is The Illumine Method™ safe?

Yes, The Illumine Method™  is a completely safe, non-intrusive therapy which has no side-effects.

During an Illumine Method™ session, hypnotic trance is achieved by relaxing you deeply enough to take you into an Alpha or Theta brainwave state. These are familiar states that you experience every day of your life.

Alpha state occurs when you’re feeling alert but relaxed, like when you’re taking a shower, daydreaming or absorbed in a movie. You experience Theta state each night when you fall asleep and each morning when you wake. You’ll recognise it as that state between wakefulness and sleep.

Hypnosis allows you to remain in these states for an extended period of time, allowing us to bypass the conscious mind and access the subconscious, which directs the majority of the thoughts, decisions and behaviours in our lives.

How does it work online?

People are often surprised to learn that The Illumine Method™  can be very successfully delivered online.

Provided you’ve set yourself up correctly (see Preparing For Your Session), being in your own familiar environment can enable you to relax more easily, allowing you to fall more naturally into a trance state.

Also long as we can hear each other clearly, and I can see you to be able to gauge your responses, there is little difference. After all, once your eyes are closed your only connection with me is my voice.

Can I get stuck in trance?

No, you can’t get stuck in trance. If your therapist was to leave you in a hypnotic trance, eventually you would either wake up once you realise they’re no longer speaking to you, or fall asleep and wake up later. There’s no chance of getting stuck in a state of hypnotic trance.

Will I lose control during a session?

One of the common fears about hypnotic therapy is about losing control during the session, however the subconscious mind will only take you where you’re emotionally ready to go.

Your subconscious will never disclose something that you prefer to keep private or say something that is out of alignment with your best interests and values. So in this sense, you are always in control.

You will never do or say anything in hypnosis that goes against your values or compromises your privacy.

Will I remember anything?

The amount of detail you remember will vary person to person. Much like remembering a dream, your memory of the session may be vivid and detailed, or could be hazy and hard to articulate.

For this reason, you may request a recording of your session. Reviewing your experience can help you gain further insights and deepen your understanding of yourself, which is an important part of the therapeutic process.

What does it feel like to be in a hypnotic trance?

Being in a trance is a very pleasant experience. You feel deeply relaxed and yet alert, much like being in a vivid daydream, which you can wake from at any time. Many people are surprised at how pleasurable the experience can be.

As one client shared, ‘I was used to healing being hard and painful and sometimes impossible, and it was hard to believe how strangely lovely and easy the process could be.’

Is it like stage hypnosis?

The hypnotic state you'll enter during and Illumine session is nothing like stage hypnosis, during which participants are carefully selected for their desire to comply with the hypnotist’s instructions for the audience’s entertainment. No-one will ever do anything in a hypnotic state that they wouldn’t do in a waking state. In an Illumine Method™ session you are always in control of your words and actions.
